On the Key Generation Rate of Physically Unclonable Functions

چکیده
THIS PAPER IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE STUDENT PAPER AWARD. In this paper, an algebraic binning based coding scheme and its associated achievable rate for key generation using physically unclonable functions (PUFs) is determined. This achievable rate is shown to be optimal under the generated-secret (GS) model for PUFs. Furthermore, a polar code based polynomial-time encoding and decoding scheme that achieves this rate is also presented.

On Improving Reliability of SRAM-Based Physically Unclonable Functions
Physically unclonable functions (PUFs) have been touted for their inherent resistance to invasive attacks and low cost in providing a hardware root of trust for various security applications. SRAM PUFs in particular are popular in industry for key/ID generation. Due to intrinsic process variations, SRAM cells, ideally, tend to have the same start-up behavior. SRAM PUFs exploit this start-up beh...
متن کاملA Formal Definition and a New Security Mechanism of Physical Unclonable Functions
The characteristic novelty of what is generally meant by a “physical unclonable function” (PUF) is precisely defined, in order to supply a firm basis for security evaluations and the proposal of new security mechanisms. A PUF is defined as a hardware device which implements a physical function with an output value that changes with its argument. A PUF can be clonable, but a secure PUF must be u...
متن کاملMemory Leakage-Resilient Encryption Based on Physically Unclonable Functions
Physical attacks on cryptographic implementations and devices have become crucial. In this context a recent line of research on a new class of side-channel attacks, called memory attacks, has received increasingly more attention. These attacks allow an adversary to measure a significant fraction of secret key bits directly from memory, independent of any computational side-channels. Physically ...

متن کاملPUFKY: A Fully Functional PUF-Based Cryptographic Key Generator
We present PUFKY: a practical and modular design for a cryptographic key generator based on a Physically Unclonable Function (PUF). A fully functional reference implementation is developed and successfully evaluated on a substantial set of FPGA devices. It uses a highly optimized ring oscillator PUF (ROPUF) design, producing responses with up to 99% entropy. A very high key reliability is guara...
